First black judge named to Ontario Court of Appeal

Justice Michael Tulloch will join the Ontario Court of Appeal in the latest appointment to the province’s highest court. He’s the first black person to be named to the court and will officially take the post on Saturday, a little more than 20 years after being called to the bar.

Making a fuss over how much of the Canadian population is made up of visible minorities always strikes me as silly. Will having too many minorities somehow dilute the character of the nation? Or is having a sizeable minority population a badge of honor that proves the country’s unique tolerance for diversity?
