Toronto’s Vital Signs: How diverse is our leadership?

Oct 6, 2010 |

The Toronto Community Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to improving communities in Toronto, released Toronto’s Vital Signs this week. Toronto’s Vital Signs is an annual report that examines eleven interconnected issues that are critical to the well-being of our city region and its residents.

One of the Vital Signs is Leadership, Civic Engagement, and Belonging.

Why does it matter?  The Toronto Community Foundation suggests that “[l]eadership that reflects the city’s diversity helps to strengthen a culture of citizen engagement. The more we feel connected to others, the more vibrant and resilient we are individually and collectively.”

Drawing on findings from DiverseCity’s Counts research, the Vital Signs report concluded that “[v]isible minorities still aren’t well represented among GTA decision-makers and a wide disparity exists across sectors.”

Vital Signs 2010 is must-read material for all Torontonians.  See highlights of Toronto’s Vital Signs or the full report on the Toronto Community Foundation website.
